No lights on the panel, nothing. Checked the voltage on the drop cord. Good. Fuse has not blown. Led on the back of the controller lights up, but that is the only sign of life. Unplugged everything coming from the controller and only plugged in the power, exactly the same..

I'm assuming I need a new controller, thoughts on diagnosis?

If so, any thoughts on replacements, upgrades, prices, sources, etc.?

Thanks!!

Might be time for a Rec Teq.

Sorry your smoker died. But I have heard many stories of Traegers not living a long life.

I second this. I have a Reccy and it is 100% better than the other pellet smokers I looked at to include Traeger, Pit Boss and even the Weber to my dismay, because I am a Weber die hard.

IMHO it's probably beyond economical repair. Unless you have a unique model that is worthy of restoration,:emoji_rolling_eyes:, I would look into a new smoker.

Read way to many complaints coming from various Traeger owners over the years. Do feel sorry your's went dark though. Definitely agree with David, put your hard earned money into something with known quality, i.e. Rec Teq. I have yet to read negative results from the RT owners here on SMF, of which there are many.

Thank you so much for that advice. I found a Facebook group and learned a lot! Lots of upgraded controllers, knock offs, etc. out there. I took their advice. Since I've taken good care of it I was very happy to be as good as new for less than 40 bucks...

I had to replace the controller in my PitBoss twice (went with an “upgraded” after market the second time). Pretty easy and worth it if the rest of the smoker is in good shape. Take pics of the wires before disconnecting, the colors on my new board differed from the original.
