I just ordered my MES 40 from Sam's, should be here next week, just in time for Memorial Day.  I upgraded from the the analog model.  Just a quick question for you guys, do the newer models come with the larger chip pan or will I have to call and request it?

jmk,

I just bought mine a month ago from Sam's and I had to call in and order one. I just got an email from Masterbuilt yesterday and it will ship Monday. Im sure you will enjoy.

JMK, morning.....  The larger chip pan is not a necessity....

To maintain the "Thin Blue Smoke", you don't want to add a lot of chips...  Maybe only a 1/4 cup or less so you don't get too much smoke....  Too much smoke tastes not so good....

I quit using my chip pan and went to the AMNPS.... Now the electronics controls the heat and the AMNPS controls the smoke....   Perfect combination for the MES is the AMNPS.....

Agree with Dave, that it is not necessary, and I will be ordering the AMNPS in late June when I get back from my fishing trip (need all the extra cash I can muster). I just figured if Masterbuilt was offering a retro, I would take advantage of the free offer before its no longer an option or free.

I have upgraded my MES to the larger chip tray, and I love it, the larger chip tray covers more of the heating element and my MES now generates smoke at lower temperatures, where that is not necessary  when your smoking butts and brisket and the like, it is necessary when smoking bacons, and sausages

Thanks for the replys!  I have the AMNS, seems like that may be the best option either way.  I hadn't used it previously for anything other than cheese and jerky.
