Well this is my first post. I did a couple of small smokes with AMNPS. Thanks Todd. I have an electric 30" Smoke Hollow. The only mod I

did was drill 3 x 1" holes in the back top of the smoker and made one of those disk for adjusting exhaust. So today with too much time

on my hands I made a 3" elbow to cover holes and have a neat stack. WoW I went from TBS to white billowing smoke. Took it off and back

to TBS. Will a chimney always have that effect? By the way no bottom intake except hole for grease cup.

Yes, a chimney will increase the draft thru your smoker, causing the pellets to burn faster

You can slow down the draft by closing off the intake, or installing a damper in the chimney

Also, the heat from the propane burner may be contributing to the faster burning

Make a heat shield, or use a thin firebrick to shield the AMNPS from the propane flame

The 3 holes worked GREAT!

My smoker is electric not propane. Should I still use a brick with electric? I took the chimney off during the smoke and everything calmed down, but I lost a lot of pellets during the flareup. Thanks Todd

Yup, try making a heat shield to deflect some radiant heat

Shut down the intake more if you want to use the chimney

I place the AMNPS inside a cheapo baking pan (the kind you get at a thrift store for a few dollars) that is just a bit larger than the size of the AMNPS. I drilled a series of holes along the sides of the pan to let a bit more air get to the AMNPS. This works great as a heat shield and I also find it is a good way to handle/move the AMNPS, especially when it is hot.

I have a smoke hollow as well with the amnps. I use a terra cotta saucer on my bottom rack that i took the chip and water pan out of. Then my amps is on that. Works great as a heat sink and defector. I also have three 1" holes in the back on top for exhaust . I can get about 8-9 hours out of a full load in the amnps.
