I'm smokin up a batch of jerky right now and I am using some of those BIG chuncks of hickory instead of the little chips. I was figuring that it's only 55 degrees outside and it's raining I could use a little more heat anyway. WRONG !!! I didn't soak the chunks first and they flamed up a bit. The temp was up to 350 and climbing and I couldn't slow it down. Finally I just took the chunks out and dunked them in some water now everything is fine.

Things got real interesting after that. I called the power company last week and told them that I had a tree limb down on the power line next to my driveway but they never came out. Well the rain got the tree limb wet and it was also laying on the cable tv wire. As soon as it got wet enough POOF no more power down the whole street. And just before the game too !!!! I had the fire dept. here and the power company. It's fixed now though. Then the power company guy asked me if he could use my chainsaw !!!! Oh well I guess it's a good thing I didnt buy an electric smoker.

Gol dang it sweetie, your gonna give me nightmares for a week.

and to think that I sprayed the last pork roast and brisket with apple juice(and Capt Morgan) eeeeuuwweee??? Terry

I don't think apple juice with booze will put out the fire Terry! Mine just flamed but the apple juice got it smoldering. My ECB came with a bag of chips - way to little fo that smoker!

Congrats on the Jerky Dew. Sorry you missed the games though

BTW ... PACKERS WON!

They got the power back on right away. I think I missed most of the 1st quarter of the first game.
