What are your toughts on freeze dried food (in general, meat in particular)?

From what i read it tastes better than dehydrated food.

I know equipment is expensive but with many members here avid hickers, campers, hunters i thought there would be some collective experience available to share.

I know I like MRE's. Freeze dried Meals Ready to Eat.
And actually, in a survival situation, some two-legged varmint isn't apt to smell hot water, not like a leg of liberal roasting on a spit.

I can't afford a freeze dryer. But do have a dehydrator.
I'm not picky. I don't like Rutabaga's or Lima beans, but willing (and have) eaten most anything else.

We had a bag of onions that were getting mold on them, the wife said throw them out. I asked if I could try pealing and dehydrating them?
I got rid of anything I felt questionable, and there was a lot of good in the inner layers. After cutting them down, I dehydrated them, then made onion powder out of them.
Some of the best smelling and tasting Onion powder I've ever seen.
And I know it is genuine, I made it.
