I bought my first smoker, a Char-Broil cabinet style, back in April. Simple, economical unit, good choice for a newbie to start with.

Went lookin' around on the 'net for information and discovered this site. I think I could find directions to smoke old tires here.

Meats of all types, cheese, salt..... If it's edible, it can be smoked and I can find it here.

Many thanks to Jeff for this site. And many thanks to all the members that have spent thousands of hours perfecting methods and posting detailed reports.

I'm just getting started in this wonderful hobby, but I'm havin' more fun than I can get a permit for.

Welcome from SC, Jim. This is a great place to learn, ask questions and share ideas. As far as the rubber tires are concerned, The 15" size are the best size for me to handle at one time. They will usually feed 6-8 with no problem. Rub with motor oil and cook with the whitewall down. Use pine knots and cook at 600* for 18-24 hours. Pull when the tread starts to separate from the bead, wrap in a headliner from a '48 buick station wagon for 11-14 minutes and chop with a roofing hatchet. Makes an excellent meal when plated with plumbers putty and steamed oak leaves. Glad you asked. I haven't made rubber tires in quite a while. It's good to find someone who knows what good food is. Up here around the Great Lakes we make Spun Salmon Salad, though you can use any firm-fleshed fillets. Any reputable tire shop will mount your fish (along with orange segments, shredded cabbage and lime Jello) in a tire, then you drive to the beer store and back to the shop. Dismount the tires and serve. A well-balanced diet!

Congratulations Jim. Charleston is probably our favorite place. We go several times a year. It's only 3 hours away. What took you to Floyd, VA?
