Little background, I had a COS(modded Char Griller) that rusted through in about 5 years. Replaced that in 2019 with a Weber Kettle(22) and a Green Mountain Daniel Boone(pellet). Since then I upgraded the Daniel Boone to a Peak 2.0 when my daughter moved out and wanted a pellet grill.

I'll be the first one to admit that even the cheap Char Griller gave me a little better flavor than pellets, however the pellet grill has just worked better on weekends that I simply would not have time to manage a stick burner.

Long story short, looking at getting an offset that's high quality, made of good heavy steel and under $2k. The Horizon has caught my attention and was just looking to see if anyone has any strong opinions on it either positive of negative.

Not sure where you are located but be sure to factor in freight costs. I don't have a Horizon smoker but their 20" diameter smoker looks to be in you price range. These come from Oklahoma. I bought a custom pit from Bell Fab in Oklahoma that was much bigger for a similar price 2 years ago. I'd reach out to them or look them up on Instagram to see some recent builds and costs.

Good luck. I did the cheap offset for years as well and really enjoy the upgrade. The bigger the smoker the easier it is to run.

IMO the deeper richer smoker flavor you get from an offset is 2nd to none.

I can't say much about Horizon, but do know they are one of the thicker gauge steel offsets. I can tell you after upgrading from a cheaper OKJ smoker I used for 8+ years to a bigger thicker gauge steel offset is flat out a game changer from fire management to fat rendering to stable temps, it's night and day. Just make sure you get the proper size, I'd rather go big and not need it much than not enough space.
