Wondering, my last smoke, I was attempting to see how close my smoker temp gauge was compared to a digital thermometer.

I place the digital probe on one of the shelves, so it would not fall through while I was opening door/etc.

Now, I'm wondering if the temp between that grill and the actual cooking temperature of the air in the smoker are actually different?
Not sure were understanding your question, to get a grate temp, you need to run your probe thru a potato or a cork, it wont read proper and may damage the probe right on the grate
I did have the probe right on the grate, and guess that is why my temps per the digital thermo seemed to be all over the place.

Anytime! That's what this place is all about
