I settled on the smoke hollow 4 in 1. Let me start off by saying i love this combo unit. The metal is a bit thin, but as i was assembling mine i did notice some improvements over what previous posters said of their units. Before i seasoned the unit i went ahead did some mods, extended stack down near grates, sealed most of the chambers best as i could. Added seals to smoke and cook chamber, bought enough thermometers to gauge global warming for the next few years. Then i seasoned my unit both sides, gas and charcoal. I added a couple foil wrapped fire bricks as well to help even out the smoke chamber. I boil tested my thermometers and made sure they were all accurate and even, suprisingly they were all good within no more than 2 degrees either way i figure thats my margin of error. Then i placed two of my thermometers in my cook chamber, and preppe everything, and brought it up to 275 within 15 minutes, cut air by half and 15 minutes later im at 300, cut that by half and it purred to 260 like a kitten and sat there for two hours with no work at all, added a few pieces of lump and it hummed right along for me at a pretty steady temp. Also from side to side at grate level without a water pan or heat diverter i was 15 degrees off I hope it evens out more in cook time with water pan. Now that the good temp is over ribs are my first try at smoking, Jeff's "Smoking Meat" cookbook arrived today, now if i can repeat my first go i will be so lucky. I am hooked on the smoke life... you guys have been so helpful in my choice, and just reading everyones experiences good and bad has me ready for the ups and downs of the smoke.
