Temp too high?

Hey all just wondering if anyone has a dyna glo smoker and experiences temp being too high when doing the minion method? I'm having trouble keeping it below 275? Never had a problem lighting the regular way but am trying to get a longer burn? Any suggestions? Thanks

Light less coals and keep the air choked down. If the temps keep climbing with the vent closed, the fire box lid/door is leaking way too much letting air in...JJ

Yeah I tried again with less coal and it didn't get as hot

When I use the minnion method I only start with about 10-12 lit coals in a small pile on top of the unlit.
