That guy was just plain rude ! what a #$%@ " I HATE rude people" The way I see him or her to there own, If you don't want to share something then don't don't be rude about it. He could have told you "Sorry buddy it's a old family secret"

Anyway I am all about helping other's, if someone wants to keep there tricks, tips ,and secret a secret thats there choice and thats fine.

well not to worry about my secerts..you could write them all on the head of a pin.
and I have to agree with the capt dan..he was probaly there to make money and was using scrap wood to smoke..should have walked around and snuck a peek at the wood pile..

good choice of a word Rich (compunction)I agree-just a couple In the works I keep secret-all others at this time I will share.

This is the way I see it..... If you have a "product", be it a sauce, mop, rub, or say any recipe that you ARE marketing or IN THE PROCESS of marketing, I completly understand not wanting to give it out. It is, or may soon be, your "bread and butter". Or maybe a great recipe that you sell to promote, run, or operate a web site <wink>, I understand. But if you're just an average Joe Blow that likes to COOK for FUN and make people happy, what's the difference if yo give out your recipe or at least say what's in it. Geeze. If your recipe is THAT GREAT, maybe you need to take the next step and market it. I have a few decent recipes that I give out ALL the time. And even then, most of the time they come back and say it was good but not as good as when you make it, lol. I'll bet everyone here, hears that often.

Anyway, my secret ingredient in MY rub is NUTMEG! LOL... but guess what.... I've already come across a couple rub recipes that had nutmeg in it. SECRET'S OUT! heh

I have found many that ask for a smoking recipe (Not on SMF, around home); a large majority will never go through the "work" to try it themselves and the ones that do, can not duplicate it and this frustrates them. I kind if get a kick out of that, so it does not bother me to be free with recipes.

My wife and I did venison sausage for friends for 4 years. They would take the finished product home to share with others and tell them they made it (our names were not mentioned). This last year I told them they were on their own because I was moving and it was time for them to start doing their own. They purchased their own equipment, had my recipes with smoke times and called with questions when they had them. The weekend they processed and smoked I stopped by for an hour to visit (I did not critique) and noted some things I would do different, but had also showed and told them these things previously, so I kept quite. End result was anything they did not smoke turned out perfect, but their meat sticks and summer sausage ended up in the trash. I hated to see the waste but I did feel a little justice.

So, don't be afraid to share; if their heart is not in it they will tend to take short cuts. If their heart is in it, your help was not wasted and you have help create another smoke addict !!!
