Got to get out of the house today.

Heading to Syracuse to try out a meat market.

It is called Mazzye's, never been but heard lots of great things.

Specifically looking for beef and pork tongue, pigs feet and blood&tongue Baloney. Might have to hit Liehs and Steigerwald for the blood & tongue though.

Want to try making head cheese, and need stuff for my Panhas anyway.

Been a long winter so far, and just want to get out!

Where are you located? Our winter has been a strange one.

I would really enjoy a trip to the butcher right now!

Very disappointed with the market.

Didn't have the items I really went for even though they were specifically listed on their website.

Did pick up some hocks and pigs feet. They were frozen.

Bought a pound of their hot Italian sausage. Not bad, but I like Gianelli's more and can get that in a grocery store.

Live and learn.

At first Bill , I thought that is quite a big and different list.
Was interested in the items you were going for and what you might be doing with them.

But at least you came home with something, not what you had hoped for , but like you said a day out.

I just have to go outside and get frozen feet around here .

big bummer! I have to plan a trip to the butcher as well. its a good 45 minutes each way, pack a cooler and such. Got lucky and found one that has everything and more, if you are will to pay. but its good stuff, good people.

I would feel put out to get to a butcher only to find they dont have the goods. hope you can find the place!

New Yonkers you just can't ever trust them. LOL

Sorry your trip didn't go as planned. You may have better luck shopping online somewhere.

Chris
True. I still like checking our places in person.

I really wanted the beef and pork tongue and the blood and tongue baloney. Used to be able to get it at ant food store deli but not anymore. I'll stick with Liehs and Steigerwald for that I guess.

Me too . Were the hocks fresh ? Last ones I had I cured with TQ , then smoked with hickory .
Found a place I haven't been too yet . Josephville meats . Right around the corner . You can even get the squeal if you get there at the right time . I'll be stopping in .

It was a downer. There are some others in the area that I will try.

No! They were frozen! The only reason I hot them is because they were larger than the ones I normally find.

I need the blood and tongue baloney for Panhas.

Wanted the tongue for head cheese.

We travel down to south Louisiana just about every year to bring back 50lbs of hot cajun sausage and a few pounds of lump blue crab meat. I asked a few years back for the recipe, and the fella that owned the shop who we have known for decades, finally gave me the recipe. Only four ingredients. I asked for how many pounds of pork and how much of each ingredients. He said he couldn't tell me as I would start making my own and wouldn't buy his. He died about 10 years ago, but one of my distant cousins down the opened his own shop and now buy from him. He won't give me the recipe either.

Do you have a Mexican grocery store near you? They may have beef tongue, not sure about pork tongue though. Beef tongue is getting hard to find Mexican restaurants near me, I'm in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, it used to be cheap.
No I don't, but appreciate the suggestion. Thanks!
