I'm really enjoying this thread, learning a lot. I'll post what I've been doing shortly.
I've been using Folgers Classic Roast and making it with an AeroPress. Previously I was drinking victor Allen K-cups. The wife and daughter still use the Keurig for their ice coffee. Making a stronger cup of coffee with the AeroPress was a huge improvement in flavor, to my taste buds anyway. Recently tried Folgers Black Silk and it is better yet. So, I'm slowly but surely learning about coffee. I've been playing around with a couple of new coffee gadgets, the OXO Pour Over and the OXO Rapid Brew. They both work pretty well for making single cups.

On a side note, I use an Ozark Trail 20oz. stainless tumbler like this one for my coffee.

I only wash it 3 or maybe 4 times a year. The wife thinks it's gross, but I think the buildup of coffee oils on the interior add to the overall flavor of the coffee.

I rinse off the lid and sealing gasket more often as needed.

With all my time in airline lounges and hotels I had to get one of the contraptions that you press an icon on a touch screen, it grinds the beans, makes the coffee and steams the milk. I have found my morning go to is a double long espresso which is essentially half strength espresso and a dash of milk unless I want to clean the steamer. I typically use a french or dark roast from a local roaster. I need to go back to Hawaii and get some Kona coffee from a little farm I know of. Its too expensive but so good.

Tried the Caribou Coffee, Obsidian Blend dark roast this morning. Not man enough to handle it. Not bitter but just too strong. On the other hand I really like the Caribou Coffee, Caribou blend. I really like it.

Our Kuerig is only about three weeks old. Purchased when our Cuisinart K-Cup bit the dust after less than a year. I checked out the EZ-CUP but unfortunately our Kuerig requires a filter with (5) holes in the lid and the EZ-CUP only has one hole.
If you`re going to use your own ground coffee in your Keurig, Keurig makes their own 5-hole pod for ground coffee. You can find them at most any Walmart. This is what i used when i use to have a Keurig machine.

Wild. That was EXACTLY my method when I was espresso geeking. Check this out. I browse here on my phone and then later comment on the laptop so I read your post before making my am cup (nespresso) and was thinking how to respond and thought to myself. Wonder if ran the cup again... I'll be damned if it's almost exactly how I used to like it! Little bit of milk in the cup and nuke to scald first. THANKS I forget the name, lungo or ristretto, whatever.

Believe it or not, for any of you who have a Kroger or Kroger owned grocery near you, the store brand "Signature Select" coffees are very good. This is from someone who for years ordered Community Coffee and had it shipped to IL. That ice until covid somehow ruined them and it sucks now.

But any who, very good and strong, and a good deal at $14.99 for a 2 pound bag. I make mine in my Breville Dual Boiler. Good stuff.

I`m not being political here, so take this however you want to.... but those "wonderful tariff's" took my coffee from $14 a bag last week, to $18 a bag this week. I`ll cut back on my coffee due to price, but if it goes any higher than it is right now, i`m done. Its tough when the price is stronger than the coffee.

My coffee went up too supposedly due to tariffs also. Retailers can be rascals and will take any opportunity to raise prices if they can blame the raise on someone besides themselves. I remember when unleaded gas first came it. They quit adding the lead to gasoline and charged more money for it.

Unleaded gas cost more to produce. It was a cheaper additive to boost octate but it was toxic and made children stupid. Sort of like decaf coffee is more expensive than regular coffee to produce.

Wasn't as much about octane as it was about cushioning the valve seats to protect them from damage. That was the main reason for the lead in gasoline back in the day. It was also an anti-knock agent, as you said, though.

CORRECT!
It kept us from burning the valves!

Speaking of high octane and strong coffee... I got tired of hot coffee and switched to Cold Brew awhile back. You can make a concentrate that's ridiculously strong. I've only made the mistake of drinking it without diluting it once. Hot day so I filled a glass with ice and coffee and not thinking chugged it in just a few minutes. Then came the tunnel vision, cold sweat, floating feeling... I only did it once.

I use the Toddy setup though a lot of people just use a half gallon mason jar and a "Coffee Sock" for filtration. I recommend the Essential Brewer that comes with a plastic pitcher rather than the easily breakable glass decanter in the Home kit. Don't ask how I know that it breaks easily. The paper filters seem expensive but you can find them for $3-4 per 20 on Ebay rather than the $20 per on the Toddy site.. The felt disk filter can be rinsed and frozen between uses and they last a long time.

Besides the fact that you can make it as strong as you can handle, there's absolutely no acidity due to it being cold brewed and you don't need to use expensive coffee. The cheapest you can find is perfect. I use coarse ground Winco beans unless I can find cheaper.

The only USA produced coffee comes from Hawaii and they already command a premium price.
Once the tariff issues gets equalized don't the prices to come down.
Remember when oil prices skyrocketed 15 years ago and tire prices jumped as they are petroleum depend for a base stock. Did tire prices drop where petroleum prices plummeted?

Almost. The lead additive in gasoline lubricated the valve stems along with coating the seats.
The original use for Tetra Ethyl Lead was solely to increase the octane or anti knock. It was originally sold in a pharmacy as a concentrate to blend in by the consumer.
Messy and people didn't like it. Enter Dupont Chemical and created Ethyl Oil Corp to blend gasoline at the distributor and the retailer (your local filling station) had pumps labeled "Ethyl".
I'm in my 60's and remember pumps labeled "Ethyl"

I hit 60 earlier this year and also remember the "Ethyl" label on gas pumps.

Also, a pump jockey filled your tank for you and checked the oil, etc, and washed your windshield while it was filling.

I do pour-over in a small container. I have a precise-temp water kettle and use a scale for exact water/coffee ratio. I experience a pleasurable cup even with name-brand coffees, and more so with gourmet brands.
