With the 2017 Salmon season finally under way, my WAY better half and I decided to go out the Golden Gate and up along the Marin coast to see what we could find.

After we went under the Golden Gate. Note all the birds on top of the water. That means there's bait which means fish.

With our 4 fish. They'll remain on ice tonight and tomorrow we'll do the processing. This past weekend, we came home with
similar catch, so we now have lots to smoke. Funny thing though is that I still have some of last year's catch in the freezer which
we need to first smoke. Yes, the freezers are getting very full already during the beginning of the season.

Very Nice,
they'll be some great eats for sure.
Y'all make a good looking couple of happy anglers.

I do miss the West Coast fishing, but the Gulf Coast isn't too shabby.
I grew up fishing the SoCal Kelp beds, but also made pilgrimages to AK for salmon and halibut.

Nice catch get em early!

Talks of early closures again. Northern California and Southern Oregon coastal waters aren't going to get a season this year.

Yes, we're shutting down but for only a couple weeks.   Oregon border down to below Eureka are shut down....period.  And here I've been thinking about retiring and moving up near the Oregon border.   What I don't like is seeing such large fish during the early part of the season.   Where are the young fish (shakers) who need to go up river to spawn, so we can see them again in a couple years?   Yesterday we brought in 24 nice size fish for 14 anglers.  I think we saw only 3-4 shakers.

Argh.
