Well, the experiment starts today.  I'm going to try and create a smoked beef pot pie.  Here are the early phase photos.

Cubes with rub.

Trying a little tactic with some broth to help prevent drying out.

Loaded for the smoker

I'll be following your progress! With my wife being gluten allergic I usually stick to shepherds pie or cottage pie. A smoked version of those with your filling would be tasty I bet.

I was secretly hoping I have enough filling to make a shepherds pie as well.  I figured if I had any leftovers at all, I could just make the mashed potatoes deeper to pull it off.

I hope you do! Looking forward.to the results!

OMG as soon as I seen that Shepherds Pie came to mind and I just re seasoned my Dutch Oven. I will be watching.

Wow. Looks great already.

Time for the pay off!  They were both amazing.  The shepherds pie is infinitely easier because I didn't have to do pie crusts which always kicks my a$$.  But either one of these would be considered fine dining in comfort food.

FYI, the shepherds pie went back in the smoker until the potatoes were lightly browned.

SuperDave that shepherd's pie looks great. My first attempt at shepherd's pie needed more meat  to look as good as yours looks. Next time I'll add more meat like yours. The smoked meat pie looks great also! I cannot see myself making the pie crust though as I never have before and pie crust is not my favorite thing. That is a great cook though.

Very nice SuperDave!  I just smoked and cubed a chuck roast last week and the wife made a pot pie too (and a turkey one).  Great time of the year to eat these...  I was debating whether or not to cube up the roast before smoking.  I ended up putting it in the smoker and cubing it up afterwards.  Can you talk about the taste/tenderness of the meat having cubed it before smoking?  I think I want to try that next time.

That is a fine looking meal Thanks for sharing

Hi SuperDave, can I add my bit?

Why not put your Veggies in the broth, they you get the flavour from the meat drippings?

Looks Good, will be trying this one!
