Hi all, I'm new to the forum and just bought a Traeger Pro Series 22 last month. I've gone through 3+ bags of pellets already so you know I'm using this baby on a regular basis! Here's my deal. I want to do reverse seared steaks and I want to have a baked potato with it. How do I do it?

I would get some thick steaks and smoke them to about 115 and then throw them on a hot cast iron skillet shortly on each side to give it a nice crust. But I like my steaks rare-medium rare. The potato I would wash poke with a fork rub olive oil and sea salt on the outside of it wrap it in foil and put it in a 400 degree oven for 50-60 minutes. Makes a pretty good meal and you will be eating within a couple hours

I don't have a Traeger. But I've seen where Pellet Smokers use these Grill Grates.

Might fill that searing desire?

Tators, oh Lord how I loved my Steak and tators!
I would be cookin me a rib eye, and have a boiling pan with potato chunks boiling/simmering on a side burner.
Meat and tators man! S, P, Butter. And my Sonny's Secret Seasoning on the steak.

But you can’t do both at the same time. Potatoes need an hour, hour 15 on high. Steak goes low and slow for about the same then brief sear. My point is, how can I have both on my plate hot off the Traeger?

Nuke the potato for three minutes in the microwave then wrap in tinfoil and put it on the grill from the get go. Definitely not the way I like to do it but there’s no other choice without putting it in the oven. Good luck

Cook the studs in the oven and coridante that time with the steaks. I've tried studs on the smoker and they turned out ok it u wanna do it that way. I've done them on a gas grill with great results but seem to take a long time if smoking them. put a temp probe in the steak so U don't over cook it

Worth a try tho Ishi. Best option I’ve heard. Thank you. Are you Ishi (I’m sure you are) on Archery Talk?
There is only one:D and I hope that’s not a bad thing.
I really enjoy smoking meats in the summer waiting for bow season. Good luck with Traeger
