Hey guys. I came across a complete handmade stainless steel locker for $50 I thought would be perfect for a smoker build. I decided to steal the 1300 watt element from my smoke hollow smoker. My plan is to insulate it with roxul bat insulation and than build a wooden box around it to close it all in. Just for some testing I surrounded the smoker with the roxul and was able to get The temperature up to 300f at exactly 1 hour. But my worry is that right when I turned off the power to see what happens the temp seemed to drop fairly quickly. I understand that air does not hold heat that well. Kind of like an empty fridge running all the time.
I don't know if it will work Well if the element has to run the whole time to keep that heat. Of course the door definitely needs to be sealed and insulated better.
I'm looking for ideas on how to seal the door. If I need a vent, where it should go. Etc. The size of the smoker is 2'x2x4'inside. I'll upload more pictures tomorrow. But what's your opinion? Will it make a good. Smoker?

Sorry I can't really be of any help on the build...I just wanted to say that the craftsmanship of that wood shell is outstanding.  Great woodworking skills there for sure!  Nice job!

Great looking smoker and Cabinet, Nice workmanship, As for the vents, I would put them in low, across or staggered from each other. Will you be using a chip tray or AMNPS / AMNTS? you will need the airflow for the wood chips or pellets. And make vents adjustable if possible. Let us know how things go. Nice work

I will be using a chip tray that sits about 1/2" over the element. I was thinking about running a 1" pipe coming out of the top left side of the smoker with a ball valve to Adjust the flow. Might clash with the look however. I will take a picture of the inside of the smoker tomorrow to help aid in ideas. I still need to be build shelves.
