Went to a bbq gathering. Fellow there was selling Spud Spikes, they are a stainless steel spike that goes thru the center of a tater, supposedly helping it cook better/quicker. Any one ever try something like these? If so any comments?

I hear they work, and it makes sense that heat can radiate into the center. But if I'm in that big of a hurry I can pop it in the microwave. Best way I have seen for baked taters is 400* oven poke with fork on opposite ends top and bottom and they come out great unless the tater sucks then your screwed one way or the other. I think I've read about people using big nails when cooking potatoes as well but not sure about the food safe quality of them.

Hmm back in the seventies my mom, and grandmas all used those. Non of them have used them
Since the 80's course that's when's microwaves came into to play and metal was a no no. Now none of them use the microwaves or the tater skewers... Kind of amazing how things cycle in and out.

Back when I was eating potatoes we'd put a shish kabob skewer through them so they would cook faster on the grill. Dad taught me that ...way back when. I guess they cook a bit faster that way. b
