Searched but could not find the specific answer to this question. If I plan to soak natural hog casings overnight, do I do it in the fridge? Otherwise how could I assure that it was cold water? Thanks!
It is still raw meat so fridge for the night
I re read it.... no mention of refer..... Anyway, to be redundant and cover all bases..... all meat products need referring, even in salt, or in a cool dark place below 50 degrees..... I'm guessing....Thanks! That's what I thought but needed to check!
Thanks for the link Dave. Pretty sure I read that one but he never actually mentions of the soaking was done in the fridge
I made changes to the thread to return the casings to the fridge...... If I'm changing water frequently during the day when I first get them i don't return them to the fridge. I use cold tap well water and leave them out on the counter soaking. Remember I'm changing the water every hr or so washing them...... I will return them to the fridge later on in the day when I stop changing the water. My well water stays pretty cold through out the year. To be on the safe side I recommend you keep the casings refrigerated during the process as the others said
