These are some amazing sights! Never seen anything that big. Breathtaking and scary at the same time.

Sites that you don't want to see very often. This was Dec. 30, 2019

Didn't want roof to cave in. Bad is when you pull it all off the garage is you need to blow that again.View attachment 484473

I have one of those "Roof Rakes".
I only ever used it once, when we had the house before this one. It had about 4' of snow on it, and the main ridge was sagged pretty bad. I raked as much as I could off.
Then that Summer I put "Strong-backs & Collar Ties" throughout the attic to beef it up.

Some of my neighbors have metal roofs and I see these curls all the time. We had our roof done a couple of years ago, and decided to go with traditional shingles. It has a twenty year warranty and I don't think I'll be alive or living here when the warranty expires. One of my neighbors who has a metal roof went on vacation last year only to come home to find out one of these curls broke a window in his living room. It was a mess that I'm glad I didn't have to clean up.

Where i live, we call that an icicle.

When I used to work at Bethlehem Steel, we used to get real "Actual Icicles" on the overhangs of the Big Old Rusty buildings in Bethlehem. Some were as big as a Man. They had areas below taped off to keep people from underneath. Sometimes they got some guys together & shot them down.

We get those all the time up here in Minnesota. They just seem to go away after a while.

Yup--I figured you guys would get some Beauties there too!!!

that's a big one bear, my garage is 70ft long but i don't think i ever had a curl the whole length.

Yup---Bear Jr gets a few of them every year, but this is the first time he ever got one the whole 100' of length of the building, and an even amount hanging down the whole way.

I keep them knocked off my shed/ barn.

LOL---One time they had a small section right above the office door, so they threw a few M-80s up there & blew it off.

That's crazy. I have a 36x60 Shop and when the snow starts sliding off that, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be under it. I keep close eye on it when I'm in and out the walk-in door

LOL---That Pole Barn is built up a few feet with back-fill, and one time we got a really bad Ice Storm. The first Climber to get there in the morning had a really hard time getting to the door, uphill on ice, so when he finally got there he tied a rope to the door knob so the rest of the guys could get up to & into the door for the Morning Meeting. Everything was Solid Ice!!!

Our ranch house was built by a German family that emigrated to south Texas. Take a look at the pitch on the roof, they didn't want to take any chances with snow build up. :emoji_laughing:

Kinda cool looking! Never seen one that long before either. Good thing it didn't fall on anything or anyone!

Yup---Be interesting to know how many Tons of snow are actually in that Curl.
No door on that side, and just one window, so it doesn't get much walking traffic.

It can get scary!!
I know Rochester & Buffalo, NY get a lot more snow than we do, but they are equipped better to handle the big ones.
I remember when I was a kid, our whole little town of "Quakertown" was practically shut down. We had to borrow a piece of equipment from upstate NY to "uncover the town". The thing had a bucket elevator that dug the snow from the sides of the streets, and took it up the elevator & right into Dump Trucks that were lined up. Then they were shuttling full dump truck loads to places like the Skating Rink & the Community Swimming Pool Parking lot. Every empty parking lot in town was covered with dump truck loads of snow!!

Wow! That's amazing, Bear. I grew up in Jersey in the 60's to the early 90's. The most snow I ever saw was 28" in 78. Drove in it, got stuck in it, hiked 5 miles, etc. That's with me for life. And that's nothing like what you just described. I can't imagine what that must've been like.

LOL----78?? I remember that snow!!!
I was driving a " 74 Duster", but I had a 78 Ramcharger on order, and it was already 2 weeks beyond the estimated delivery. It got here 3 weeks after that Big Snow.
Took me 2 days to hand shovel my Driveway---2' deep, up to 7' in drift areas.
Bear Jr was only 6 years old, and he wanted to help. Mrs Bear bundled him up & sent him out with a little plastic shovel. 2 minutes later he was rolling around in the snow.
He's a much better help nowadays!! :emoji_laughing:

I'll never forget. My buddy and I got stuck, I was in a 74 Buick Lesabre. Hiked 5 miles , came upon 3 others stuck in an old Camaro, we helped get them unstuck, they gave us a ride to his house. As soon as we got into his house, his Father told us we had to go out with him to get his Mother and her coworkers, who were stuck at their work! This was at 11pm. LOL indeed.
