So this year we have a surplus of Jalapenos in the garden. We have not used any of them yet so the wife decided I should make some ABTs on Sunday while I was smoking a chuck roast. So she went out to the garden and picked a dozen of the nice large jalapenos. I made them the same way I always make ABTs, cream cheese and brown sugar filling wrapped in bacon. When they came out of the smoker I couldn't wait to dive in. I ate three in about 10 seconds.... then it hit me hard! Our jalapeno crop this year are the hottest jalapenos I have ever had in my life. These things could take the paint off the car. I spent the next 30 minutes drinking milk and eating bread. This was the first time ever I have thrown away ABTs but I couldn't even think about eating them they were so stinking hot. But on the bright side they will sure make some good chipotles and hot sauce.

I've heard soaking in sprite will remove some of there heat. My wife likes no heat so we use mini sweet peppers.

That's too bad. I have had to get jalapenos from the grocery and seems they have all the heat bred out. 1-5 may have more than a tingle of heat...JJ

How hot has your summer been? I heard it takes hot weather to make peppers hot.

just dont get that juice on your face or in your eyes i was making some ABTs and got some in my eyes and on my face it felt as if i had my face in a 500 degree oven and the thing is when they were ready to eat they wasn't too bad hot so i couldn't imagine what a really hot one would do.

also im not saying @c farmer  is wrong but i was always told lack of rain will make the hotter but i dont know that for sure.

I have made the mistake of getting it in my eyes too many time. I know where gloves while cutting peppers.

As for the lack of rain, we have had a ton of rain this year. Part of the heat might have come from me letting the ripe peppers stay on the plant for a while. I am letting them turn red this year which makes them stay on the plant a month longer than usual. These were still green but they were probably only a week or so away from turning red.
