I've never owned a hot tub, but plenty of my friends have. A common theme seems to be that they are really enjoyed and used a ton in the first two or so years. After that their usage/enjoyment dwindles. Then comes the time the owner has to make the decision if keeping it heated is worth the expense.
Same, Given we live where its cold, I hear heating them is a minimum $100/month. I couldnt part with that.

Enjoy the space Brian!

Summertime 400+ keeping the house cool, winter time 300+ keeping the tub warm. That’s just running it at its lowest temp December through February to keep the pipes from freezing. I’ve been told cost plus effort to winterize it so you don’t have to heat it really isn’t worth it.
Edit: whole house bill, not just the hot tub.

It gets damn cold here , and no way was mine ever close to that . When I got rid of it , I saw maybe a $30.00 a month savings . Probably not even that .
Good cover and good seal , you don't lose much heat . Mine had 4 " of foam on the sides and 6" in the cover .

I loved mine but first the pump was getting very bad, hardly any pressure. I replaced it with a new pump and the pressure was so high it blew the bearings out of the spinner jets. I drained it for a while and when I eventually refilled it 3 of the jets were leaking.

After all that is was the electricity prices here were jacked up and it costs 2 1/2 times as much to keep it at 104. We had our guys cut it up and haul it away. I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

A good cover definitely helps, but when your winter temps can dip down to -18* there's only so much a cover is capable of doing.

Thanks for posting. I have been using my hot tub for at least 35 years. It has been moved twice with me, yep had to replace the pump a few times and switch from a gas heater to electric my last move 20 years ago. Had to replace the wood support frame once. All in all it was worth it to me. Enjoy the hot water. I have clear sky out in the country, so stars, planes, meteors, distant lightning and stuff is great 3-4 nights a week. I would not be without one.

I sit in it at 101, dial it to about 80 when I get out. Switch it back to 101 about an hour to an hour and a half (depending on outside temp} before I want to use it again.

Just a thought if you want to try one more time: 3M 5200. It’s a 1-part polyurethane marine sealant that cures underwater, remains flexible, etc. Comes in any color you want as long as you want white or black. It’s extremely tenacious; make sure you’re gloved-up and don’t get it on anything you don’t want it on, including yourself.

Then again, there’s always the sawz-all.
