I had a Blazin' Grills Grid Iron and had a lot of auger fires with.
None got to the hopper.
I told Tim what I thought the problem was and they eventually modified the firmware (after I sold mine of course).
The shutdown code was keeping the fan going and causing a large fire that got up to the auger.
Once they shutdown the fan, the problem was solved.

$1000 can get you a lot of pellet grill.

I personally have a no name one from the restaurant store but it does have the drop down pellet auger which I'm a fan of.

If you do Sam's club, the members mark smoker is either manufactured or licensed by camp chef, and uses an additional smoke box for "more" smoke flavor. Haven't used it but supposed to be good.

I just use a pellet tube and it helps a lot.

Consider a kamado if you don't need tons of space and want real versatility. They can hold steady temps for 12+ hours with out adding fuel and can run anywhere between 150f to 700f. They smoke brisket, bake bread, make pizza, and grill up anything you want.

Yeah, B bpacilio59 , I will not try to talk you out of buying a pellet grill. Their are so many really good ones out there, RecTec at the top of the heap.
But, seriously, you can't shop for a 'smoker' without thoroughly checking out a Weber Smokey Mountain cooker. They know what they are doing when it comes to backyard bbq. Temperature control is easy and it produces really good results. And they offer the right size for your needs, well under $1,000. Now I know this advice comes from a genuine Weber fanboy so take it for what it is worth.

I have owned a pit boss pro 850 for almost 2 years and it has performed well. The key with a pellet smoker is to ensure you clean the burn pot out after every two or three cooks and if they’re really long cooks, maybe after every cook, it’s not that much of a chore to do. The fires you hear about are from people not cleaning the burn pots out and it can be a real mess as I know two people that’s happened to and it was their own negligence.
It’s also important to keep the pellets dry and I usually keep mine indoors in a plastic container. I’m just in the process of doing some bacon and used to smoke tube without any heat from the smoker itself for about four hours and now it’s resting and in a day or two all finish it off to temp. Customer service for pit boss has been good with me as I’ve only had one issue and they had a part on my door within a couple of days. There are a lot of other options, but that’s my O2.

I’m a cheapskate. I bought a Damniss pellet smoker from Amazon for $300, put it together and it works great. It’s small but I can fit a rack of ribs and a brisket in it. It has a temperature control on it and it smokes great. I also have a electric cabinet smoker by Masterbilt or something like that. It’s not as good as the Damniss. I have never cleaned the cabinet smoker except the racks. I have always had a dirty smoker because of the flavor it gives when it has some age on it. I also never wet the chips. It smokes great but I like the pellet much better.

Another vote for Recteq. I've owned my Trailblazer 340 for 5 trouble-free years. Don't let the size fool ya, can fit plenty for a family or a party. Plenty of smoke profile. My BIL has a Pitboss and has to use a blankie to keep it warm in the winter. My Recteq had no problem smoking 2 pork butts overnight in -17° weather outside.
