Smokehouse Temps

So far the smokehouse is holding temps. May be a different story when the out side temps drop.

I'm still in seasoning mode with some pellets and some cuts from the peach tree.
Not really sure if I want to stay with the lpg burner.

I'd try to source a different burner head....one like this...18,000BTU....

More heat, and easier to control IMO.....can put 4d nails in the outer ring of jets to cut the BTUs in half. No flame out, very fine adjustments can be made. And if you need more heat when it gets very cold, just pull the nails out and let 'er rip.....

This works very well in my smokehouse. But I'm in warm Louisiana......

Last I checked, one can be had for $20-25 bucks for just the burner head without the stand. Can swap out heads on the stand you already have...

Good setup, and Tejas Smokers has the venturie and pipe in any length so the air inlet to the burner can be outside the smokehouse, this is what I plan to do here at some point.

For electric, here is an option for you…..

This is a 1750 watt element (good for a 20 amp plug) I know you have a long reach to the house….this element has threaded wire connectors for longevity and a better connection with minimal losses. There are cheaper off OEM brand replacements as well 25-30 bills for them.

This temp controller will handle 30 amps so a very easy solution to control the element directly…..I use this controller for my 1800 watt table top toaster for heat treating knifes.

The other source for nice elements is cook shack or smokintex just get a combination of replacement elements to equal 1600-1800 watts

With the aftermarket version of the charbroil you will be into it about 80 bills with a box and connectors……

Here is my Toaster set up. I put it in a waterproof box with strain connectors….I used an outdoor rated power cord

Since the toaster had a convection fan I wired that separately and I also added a 20 amp breaker for the power switch.

I've been watching your build and enjoying the ride. I've since outgrown my current set up and have been looking at options of building something a little bigger.

I've been looking at LPG since I'm in a rental with no outside plug options and can't upgrade the electrical box.

All you guys using gas... I encourage you to use/build a FAIL SAFE system... Meaning if the flame goes out , The system will shut the gas down...

I have also seen other threads to links with complete set up's and also being PID controlled... So you can set steps to ramp temps...

Yes

The hopper/assembly on my pellet pooper I'm using now is longer like the Traeger was on my PA smokehouse. The Louisiana pellet assembly is pretty close to the side of the wall, so I said no to using it in my smokehouse, so it will replace my one I'm cooking on now. Will just clean it up good, cover it and put in basement for a backup.
