Got this recipe dialed in and thought I'd share for those interested. The wing sauce is using the base of a recipe I found elsewhere, however I cut out a few ingredients and added a few of my own, so I'll call it my recipe from now on :).

These wings are great for those who like BBQ flavor but also a bit of a kick. The first flavors are all BBQ, but the heat builds gradually on the back end - hence the name "slow burn" honey bbq.

Photos below, and the recipe below that for any interested. They were every bit as good as they look. I will probably lower the spice next time my wife is eating as the heat eventually got to her, but for me as a lover of spicy food it was the perfect amount.

After 2 hours on the smoker, before sauce/grill:

RECIPE: Slow Burn Honey BBQ Wings

Season wings with EVOO, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder

Smoke for 2 hours at 225 with Apple or Peach wood. Toss with with sauce, then crisp over hot grill (400-450) for approximately 5 minutes, turning frequently and taking care not to burn.

Sauce:

1 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 cup honey
4 TBSP butter
2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust lower for sensitive palates)
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Combine ingredients in small sauce pan over medium-low heat. Keep warm until needed. Makes enough sauce for approximately 2 dozen wings.

Thanks all for the positive feedback! They did not last long.

These looks outstanding! Thanks for posting the recipe will def have to get it a try! Did you use commercial bbq sauce or homemade?
I used Sweet Baby Ray's, mostly because we somehow wound up with a Costo-sized two pack of bottles of it. Once I deplete those I will go a step further and make my own sauce.

Those wings are definitely a winner. I like the sound of the spices and sauce in your recipe. I may have to try this one myself. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks, the spice mix was 100% improvisation. The sauce recipe was sounding a bit sweet for my liking, so I raided the spice cabinet for flavors to balance the sweetness. I'd just wish I had measured the spice mixture as I didn't think the recipe would be such a keeper. I just eyeballed it all around until the wings were pretty well coated.

Those wings look amazing !! On a separate note, I think everyone should be required to put their location.. That way if something that looks as awesome as theses wings, gets posted, I will know where to go to grab some off the smoker !!!:D:D:D

Not only do I post my location, it's in my name! But I am one step ahead of you: nothing is going on this site until it's safely in my belly. Bring me a six pack on the other hand, and we can talk!

Resurrecting this thread and making these wings again today! I haven't been doing a ton of smoking lately, aiming to change that.

Got them on just now. Feels a little silly using the 1050 for this amount of food but hey, whatever!
