Every year or so my wife and I try to rent a cabin for a couple days in neighboring Ohio. We like a couple days with no kids and some time to decompress. With our baby daughter's impending debut a month or so away, we figured this was our last chance for a while. We always make it a point to stop at one of our favorite BBQ spots (Millstone BBQ for those keeping score), and I always plan a nice dinner to be cooked in-cabin.
The meal for this trip was a no-brainer: surf-n-turf! Wifey's only exposure to lobster has been the dreaded Red Lobster franchise, and my local meat shop had loaded up on some prime grade ribeyes that I couldn't possibly pass up. My plan was to keep everything simple. Butter lemon and chives on the lobster, and just salt and pepper for the steaks. Wifey completed the meal by dressing up some corn on the cob and some bacon-wrapped loaded baked potatoes.
With the cabin having a gas grill, and the ribeyes having some serious marbling I knew flare-ups were a certainty. I decided to turn a negative into a positive by using the flames to give the steaks a nice sear at the end. Super simple, but definitely one of the best meals we've put together in a while.
Also, Wifey has sworn off Red Lobster from now on. Mission accomplished!
