Take 1/4 weber fire starter put it in your ANMPS side ways by the liteing hole, put in your pellets over the top, I pile them higher here than the rest lite the starter. it will burn maybe 10 min make sure you have a good base burning. if not I hade my handy dandy propane torch handy, get a good bed of coals burning (glowing not fire) about 2 in worth if flaming blow it out and see the smoke. you may have to play without food till you get it down.

The Weber Cubes work good

I've been experimenting with "Rubbing Alcohol", and it's working very well

Pour 1 Tablespoon of Rubbing Alcohol on the 1st 1 1/2" of the 1st row of pellets

Light with a match or lighter - A torch will burn off the fumes

Be VERY CAREFUL, because the flame burns Clear/Blue, and is tough to see

Allow the flame to burn for 10 minutes and blow out the flame

You should now have a good bed of coals burning

My guess, is either the pellets did not start, or the flame never went out, and the pellets did not smolder

Just an observation, but, if using alcohol you might stop buy the local hardware store and get denatured alcohol (paint thinner). It has less water and burns a whole lot better than isopropol/rubbing alcohol. Still burns white/blue so be careful. I used to use homemade backpacker stoves with denatured alcohol for camping and to start my charcoal chimneys. No smell, no smoke, no residue.

Yup, great idea to use "Denatured Alcohol", but I figured just about everyone already had "Rubbing Alcohol" in the house.
