Gary...very sorry for you and your wife for the loss of a dear family member.  Reading this brought a tear to my eye as I remember a dear friend that we lost about 5 years ago.  Boomer was a yellow lab that also succumbed to cancer, at the age of 10.

From one dog lover to another...condolences.

So sorry about your dog Gary. Those puppies pics really make the loss hit home to those of us who didn't know your dog. Take that extra love you have now and give it to your wife. Sounds like she's gonna need it for awhile.

Sorry to hear! Our old snow dog is getting my up there and keeps going, but can tell he's not going to be here much longer.

Listened to a good interview that Marc Maron did with Sam Simon a year ago after Sam was diagnosed with cancer. He said he had 7 dogs during his adult life and had to put all seven down when the time came. For each dog he noted the 3 favorite things the dogs liked to do. When they could no longer do those three things anymore it was time. Marc asked Sam what his three favorite things would be if it came down to it for him. Sam replied that he could do his most favorite thing until he died, laying in bed watching tv.

So far our oldest is still doing his three favorite things but it's getting harder everyday.

Not a book reader. When we had to put one of our Redbones to sleep someone suggested I read "A Dogs Purpose". Helped put things in perspective.

To ALL of you that have lost animal friends and to you that have animals that are getting older, I send you my sincere condolences. I am 70 years old and have not had a pet in over 60 years until a year ago. I didn't know how much joy and love an animal could bring. Sorry for your losses.

Gaaaaah! It must be the time of year or something. Just learned my neighbors are having to put their dog down tomorrow as well - degenerative nerve failure in his back. We all went over and spent about half an hour saying good bye to him, he used to love to come over and say hi to my kids when they were out front. Another pooch that will be very missed.... *sigh*

Hey Gary
Pls pass on our thoughts to your son and daughter-in-law. We know what they're going through.
You said they're having a cremation. We were going to bury Addy, but Miss Linda decided on cremation. Friends of ours had a dog and a cat that were the best of buddies. When the cat died they did a "home cremation". A while later, they saw the dog chewing on the remains of her best buddy. Miss Linda said she would go nuts if Roxy were to dig Addy up and chew on her--and God knows she would have LOL.
Gary
