I plan to build a smoker out of an old chest type freezer that the freon tubes rusted off of.The compressor is dangling by one tube so there is no freon in it I am sure. I am going to put a short stand under it after I stand it on one end. It will also have wheels. Maybe 4. I am 67 so it needs to be easy to move. Guessing lawnmower wheels. I will need to remove the plastic inner liner off the door and cover it with sheet metal. I have been looking for a 1000 watt plus electric hotplate for a while. Found a suitable heat source today at Goodwill store. A ceramic tabletop grill with a 1200 watt element and a grate on top. For indoor grilling I guess. Variable heat setting on it. $4.29 for it. and it worked when I tested it. I will use a small cast iron pan for the wood chips. Not sure whether to just stick bolts with extra length through the sides for the grates/shelves or build something internally to hold them. I'll figure that out when I find or make the shelves. I plan on a 3 inch stovepipe with a control flap of some sort to regulate the smoke. I have a computer fan in case I need circulation inside. Planning on smoking salt/brown sugar brine fish and makin jerkey from wild game. I live in the middle of the mitten in lower Michigan. Can hardly wait to get this project goin now that I found the heat source.

Welcome aboard!

Looking forward to seeing that build!
