Anyone here roast their own coffee?

I have been doing this for several years now. I most often buy my green beans from Sweet Marias in Oakland, CA.

I am just finishing up a batch of Ethiopia Gr. 1 Dry-Process Fara Sala, it is quite amazing.

I am partial to the Ethiopia’s, especially the dry process which does taste significantly different from wet processed coffee. I like a good Guatemala too, oh, and Kenya AA... oh and ...

I roast in a modified bread maker with a heat gun, it works great and I can do a pound and a half at a time.

I recently bought a Bonavita BV1500TD 5 cup dripper machine. It is amazing, I have "officially" used it twice, and the cup keeps getting better. The machine is approved by the SCAA and I see why, it really produces a great cup of coffee.

I am going to roast today to get a supply going for the long weekend, Ethiopia I think.

Hey John, good for you roasting your own beans.  I looked at roasting my own a couple years ago but never could decide on a coffee roaster.  We may have an old bread maker out in the garage we don't use any more.  Might have to try what you've suggested.  Post a pic of your roaster if you don't mind.

I am a diehard, coffee lover.  I want my coffee to taste rich and complex, not that dark tea-like stuff most places serve.  Temp and technique definitely makes all the difference.

Right now my favorite cup is made with a 3 cup Bialetti Moka pot, which is three 2 oz cups of coffee I believe, which I drink all at once.  I tried the 6 cup Bialetti (12 oz of coffee) and was BINGING OFF THE WALLS!  But it isn't fast, so most mornings I end up using my 30 year old Black n' Decker, single cup, "Brew n' Go" cone coffee maker (makes 12 oz of coffee).  The new ones are crap.  I received a new one as a gift but found lower temps (180-185F) and mine ceased to function after two years.  My old one just keeps going and going.  Temp is a little low at 195F, but still a decent cup of morning go juice.

I put the Bonavita you mentioned above in my "Save for Later" pile on Amazon.

Merry Christmas to you John and to all coffee lovers,

Ray
