Background first:
Mrs Bear used to run an Income Tax Prep Office.
Then after she quit there, a lot of her clients followed her to our house, and she continued doing their Income Taxes, along with the taxes of some of my old friends & guys I used to work with.
Over the last few years, she's been cutting back on how many she still did, but kept some really close friends, and some of the older clients.
The older clients she would pick the stuff up at their house & deliver them back, finished, so they wouldn't have to drive to our house.

Well anyway, back to the reason for this post:
The one lady, "Mary" has had Mrs Bear do her taxes for the last 40 years. The last few years, her daughter would drive her up here, and Mrs Bear did Mary's taxes, and both her Son's & Daughter's taxes. Then they would come back a week or so later to pick them up, and Mary used to bring me a big container full of Halupkis.
So back in March, Mary's daughter got a dose of Covid-19, and went to the hospital. She tested positive, but they sent her home anyway. Then Mary got it on April 7, and her Sister got it too. Mary just passed away yesterday. She was 93 years old. Mary's sister is still in the hospital, and they said seems to be getting better, but she is also in her 90s. Nobody could visit any of them, and the daughter is very upset, because she blames herself for bringing it home. (I would blame the hospital)
BTW: Mary was the last of the 3 nice old lady Income tax clients who always brought me Halupkis. They're all gone now. RIP 3 Great Ladies!

Sad Story, sorry to hear these kinds of things, but it’s going on in every community.
I’m sure we come out the other side, but what will be the cost.

So sad and so sorry Bear. Thank you for sharing though. This may be an eye opener for people in general as well as health care workers to be more cognizant of the dangers associated with COVID-19.

Sorrowful,
Robert

Sorry Bear. If I had the covid I would not go home to my old mother. I would Stay in the motorhome or hotel.

Yeah, That's the first thing I thought too, but apparently she was slightly sick for awhile, and living with them the whole time before she went to the hospital, and all people get from our Dear leader is Daily BS & politics, so I guess they didn't know any better.
I would think the people at the hospital would have said for her to quarantine herself, but like Mrs Bear said, as small as their house is she probably gave it to her mother & Aunt before she even went to the hospital & found out.
BTW: These aren't rich people--No motorhome & couldn't afford a hotel.

So they all was infected before.

Apparently.
That's why I said we were lucky, because they were here sitting at our dining room table, with us 3 weeks earlier. I was sitting next to the daughter.
If they'd have been here 2 weeks later I may not be here now!!

That's a real sad story, John. But one that's being and will be repeated more and more often.
I wouldn't blame the hospital too much though. Tales like this are the fault of governments not forcing people to self-isolate when they test positive for Covid 19. The blame stops there.
But.....I'm sure glad your luck was holding!!

So sorry for yours and Mrs Bear's loss. Glad you got lucky with the timing of the visit. Hoping there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Stay safe.

That’s a sad story, worked their whole lives, contributed to their country and then its all over because of this Chinese virus. Terrible.

Bad mistakes have been made by Governments BUT it is the Chinese who have wiped out the worlds economies and our way of lives without firing a weapon.

Thank You Gary!!
I don't know what the hospital told her. We didn't want to ask, because she was so upset from losing her Mother. They were very close.
A suggestion from the hospital to isolate should be enough. People shouldn't have to be forced to do the right thing, but they should be made aware of what's the best thing to do. IMO

Thank You everyone!
We'll miss her, especially every income tax season.
I usually go about my business when Mrs Bear is doing an income tax for someone.
However I'd always sit out there with this lady, because she was such a sweet old girl.
I guess we'll still see her daughter, but it won't be the same.
