Maybe a road trip is in your future? I know I’d make one if he’d build me one too. But I’m afraid the waiting list is too long, I’ll be long gone by the time it’s my turn.

It's never too late for a road trip, my friend! No waiting lists here, Brother! I do 'em one at a time, and so far that's all I have going is just one at a time. It's a hobby, not a business or a side hustle, so it's not really like I'm taking orders or anything lol. If you decided you wanted something built, all ya gotta do it let me know and we'll see what we can come up with!

I have grandad stuff going this weekend, but wanted to make a quick post to update on what I got done in the shop yesterday. I finished the brasero, and got it welded to the side of the grill.

Here's what I came up with for the front face of the brasero. This should keep the logs/fire tamed and allow for easy access to add more logs/splits.

I also trimmed out the top with some angle iron to give it a little more of a finished look.

And here it is welded in place on the left side of the grill.

Should be plenty of room to shovel coals out of the bottom of the brasero after the firebricks are in place.

It'll probably be Monday before I get back in the shop, but the "to-do" list is getting shorter! The biggest job left is to finish the grate truss, work on the wheel and ratchet assembly, and fabricate the cooking grate. I also need to build a side table for the right side of the grill cabinet...but all-in-all, this project is reaching the home stretch!

Thanks for stopping by Friends!

My Kanka rotisserie grill will go perfectly over that brasero.

There would be if it was logisticly possible, timing and distance, lol

And I heard Joel is pretty good on the tariffs thing so far also, lol

All good , Joel and I have an understanding, he builds beautiful units and I dream of them.

Many oh man.....thats some real deal cooking right there!!!

I've not seen a Kanka before, I WANT!

Yeah, I wasn’t familiar with those either until Jim showed ‘em to me. Very cool little gadget - kinda high-tech caveman style lol! 🤣. And Jim’s right - that will work nicely over this brasero!

Good morning, SMF Friends, and Happy Weekend!

Headed out in a bit to spend some grandkids time, but wanted to post an update of what progress I got made this week.

So after finishing the brasero, I moved to building a side table for the other end of the grill.

Next, I fabricated a crank wheel. Got to use a new toy for this - a small metal ring roller. It's just the cheap one from Harbor Freight, but I thought it did a decent job.

p76.jpg

And began working on the ratchet and paw system for the grate lift. Only cutting and fitting for now - I won't weld anything permanent until I see how it all works/fits.

Kinda hard to see what's what in this pic...but the grate truss is propped up in front of the grill body. You can see the axle rod, with the ratchet gear spun onto the axel. And below all that, you should see the hinge point I started work on - this is where the paw lever will hinge. All this will probably make more sense when I get it all assembled and welded in place.

And here, I am just test-fitting the wheel, ratchet, and paw to see if I like how it looks. Pretty good, I think...but I'm still working on the final design of that paw lever hinge point.

So that wraps up another week! Barring any setbacks, I could have most of the fabrication done in a week or so. I still have to build the grill grate, and the channel system for it slide up and down in...but I can begin to see the light at the far end of the tunnel!

Hope Y'all enjoy your weekend!

Very very nice Red! The shelf support is sweet creating that overhang vibe!

Just sharing the Xfire ratchet…. Once I paint it I will use smaller washers two on the inside and one on the outside with a metal locking nut so the tension is right and it doesn’t spin free…..pretty simple.

These are also just food for thought…..
This how I did the grease pan holders….again very simple and clean…. As an FYI I used stainless angle here and it was worth the price!!!! Had to custom order it in…. Still worth it!

If you zoom in you can see the removable risers for the grate slope…..I wanted to be able to do flat for the round bar grates I will be making up this summer once the home is done….
