Okay Folks Here Is How They Used To Do It...

These are screen shots from an 1847 Cookbook... I presume it is from England...

Dried Cow dung is available in the garden center of most big box stores but I have no idea where to find the Treacle or Sal Prunelle
 
Sounds like a recipe for a mummy. They must have had wheelbarrows full of salt and very little fish back then. I may have to pull out my ol' salting trough and give it a go..
