I've shot a couple woodchucks with 22, one I was after for over 1yr around the farm yard. I thought about trying the meat after I skinned it, had a buddy of mine flesh and dry it for me as a little trophy hide beings it had quite the story, couple of my buddies thought I was going to go all Carl Spackler on it till I finally got a crack at it.
I have had groundhog (woodchuck) two different ways - fried and in a stew.
  • In a stew was a win! Very good.
  • Fried - taste was OK but it was very greasy/fatty meat ... probably why the stew worked so well..

Chuck and noodles, and beaver and noodles usually. Usually cooked in a Dutch oven over the fire, and sometimes with some tomato wine!

That's a nice price on the tanning you had done!

Oh, and we tried beaver tail, once... not a fan!

Forgot to add... our UPS driver just dropped off a package, same guy that delivered my new electric stuffer, apple press, and dehydrator. He was glowing... had to show me the Big buck his 11 year old daughter shot... it was impressive! But seeing a dad that proud was equally impressive! Told him that was so awesome! Love to see that!

Welp, no luck in my Elk season. Found a bull last day but couldn't get on him. But definitely had a good time with the boys.
Figured id share a few pics...

That first picture - saw the top 1/2 on first glance - mountains, snow, ground fog - gorgeous! Then I scrolled down a bit and saw the kiddo's - awesome pic!

BOBCAT Post...
This gorgeous bobcat has visited this trap set twice...but no luck yet.
You can see the turkey-feather fluttering on the branch over the trap set. In the past I have used a DVD instead of a feather, but the deer seem to get too curious and set off the trap as well as pull down the DVD.

I have also included another cool bobcat shot from a few years ago...5 minutes before this snowy bobcat pic, a flock of turkey walked through, single file, on the same path as the trailing bobcat.

Since I started doing habitat improvement, we have had a lot more critters on the place, including bobcats...also included a pic of a bobcat and her kittens from earlier this year.

Zoom in on the bobcat in the first 2 pics - gorgeous!

Very cool! We have them up here but they are pretty few and far between/elusive. I get farm cats on some of my camera's once in a while, some are ours and some are neighbors

i quarter them up and soak in a brine 2 days. grill the quarters then put them in the crock pot with a lil chicken broth onion and seasonings. remove the bones after a long cook. pull meat a and bbq sauce it. at the party you just say its hog. nobody will know the difference

Took the son’s elk in for a euro mount. Would have done it myself… but life is busy now days!

This spike I’d have done for him anyway…as this one is unique…. Small drop times…

Then Pete asked me also post this… the first is his elk this year. . Followed by his deer last year… The rest is what I’ve harvested… they are nearly 25+ years old now… but he loves them. And that brings a smile to my face!

We run into this hunting in the backwoods… I think it’s pretty cool! I know it’s run down now… but I think it’s likely and possibly the late 1890’s to early 1900’ ish craftsmanship. Most were likely hand peeled and chopped! And the corners you can tell were hand chopped to get the logs to fit together! Just thought it was cool and would share.

Sunrise that day and a bit of other pics!

Thats cool, Justin.
We have a bunch of old cabins around here too. I found some when I was sheep hunting in some wild country. No way you could get to them other than by foot. Yet these old timers managed to build in these places. Pretty amazing.

Hey all, so just curious if anyone would be interested in participating in a hunting and fishing thread…

ALL wild game and fishing… Hopefully this can be an ongoing thread if you all are interested! It just came to my mind that a lot of us here are sportsman/women! So why not have a thread where we can share our hunts and catches!

I will start and hope some of you will share yours as well!
