I know there's no such thing as a dumb quetion, but I still think this IS one.  Now I can cook, fry, boil, roast, steam and Q most anything.  But...........I have absolutely no idea how to use a broiler.  Tried it once---really ugly outcome.  Ate canned soup that night, so that should tell you something.  So any and all advice would be ever so greatly appreciated.  Laughing at my self right now.

here's a nice video

I use the broiler for scallops..... Like it says in the video it can go from brown to burnt in a blink.....

My few experiences with the broiler have come out well. It just takes a few minutes for the stuff I've used it for. Just put a char on some stuff (steaks, melted cheese, and sauce on buns for meatball subs). Like the last guy said it can go wrong in a second. Not something you walk away from.

I did burn a few meatball sub rolls the first time but you live, you learn right? Just took them out about a minute sooner on the next batch.

What were you broiling that you destroyed so bad you had to eat soup? Had to ask.

Used to do it a lot.  Now I grill or smoke instead.

Got really tired of the messy and constant cleanup.

The bottom of my broiler pan is still in heavy use, though.  Nice tool for rubbing meat with no mess on the counters.  Also handy for mixing small batches of sausage. Now it is an easy wash instead of heavy scouring and bloody fingers!

Good luck and good smoking.

Your broiler pan is the perfect pan for stove top steaming. Just fill pan half way w/ water or other liquid . set rack on top. Meat on top of rack , Cover the meat w/ heavy foil. Sealing the foil on the lip of broiler pan. Set across 2 burners of stove and use med heat to steam.

You broiled the steak from start to finish Gary? Never tried that. That is really unfortunate! Lol! Guess it make a sense to sear it like that but seems like it would burn the outside before the center is cooked. I'm no expert though.

Thats exactly what it did.  No instructions on how to use it--just said use high or low heat settings. LOL, even the hounds wouldn't eat it, so being they're Labs and will anything for food, that should tell you just how bad it was.  Next time I'l just put a sear on it.  The only time I use it,anyway, is if the temp outside is minus 1000* and I'm out of rum!!

Lol! Wow! I have a few labs and they'll eat anything! If it was bad enough for a lab to turn it down..... I'm still laughing! Good luck in the your future broiling endeavors.
