The Beautiful NEW YORK CITY
Whats up everyone. I hope this question is in the right section. If not then please forgive me.

I was up late one night watching the tv show BBQ Pitmasters. On this episode they were in a competition in Delaware. The weather was bad. Raining and windy. The pitmasters (the ones featured on the show) put blankets on their smokers to protect them from the wind so the heat would even out.

I live in NYC and although the weather has been fantastic its been fairly windy. The wind has been a problem during my smoking sessions. I use a WSM 18inch smoker. Here are my questions

Are there special blankets for this or will any blanket do? Will the blankets burn?

On the show Harry Soo of Slap Your Daddy BBQ team uses WSM  smokers. It looks like he uses home insulation wrapped around his WSMs. Never get a good look at it on the show. If thats the case, is that safe?

Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to your responses.

Welding blankets work well.

I saw that show too, and the insulation seemed to be working well for him.
