I was thinking of getting a temp controller for my offset but with price being so high I decided to salvage the burner from my old Brinkmann “wsm wannabe” barrel smoker. After breaking the nozzle trying to bend it straight, I was able to piece together another one and was surprised it actually worked. This should eliminate having to use my charcoal chimney to start the fire and help out on those long runs (since meat only takes smoke for the first couple hours anyway).
Has anyone else tried something similar? I actually got the idea from T-Roy Cooks on YouTube and thought I’d give it a shot.
Is there anything I need to look out for that would be a problem with this setup? I’ll post pics tomorrow after this rainstorm clears up.

Thanks,
Mark

That's how a BBQ shop does it near me. They use a big propane burner and put really big pieces of wood in front of it to get smoke. Weld a little bung mount in your fb so u can hook up a propane valve to it. I'm sure u can get some really consistent temps with it with out a fancy controller

I think it will be a huge help. I didn’t have to weld anything, I just drilled through the firebox and tightened the fitting to the mixing tube. Hose hooks up on the outside of the box and the mixing tube feeds the burner inside. The burner I used is pretty rusted out but I didn’t want to buy a completely new one until I knew it would work.
