Pops Cured Turkeys

Did two 14 lb fresh turkeys for the Scouts this weekend.  Cured them for 48 hrs in Pops6927 recipe.

They were GONE in minutes.  Did the same thing for Christmas and the breast meat was served cold with cheese and appetizers.  GONE in no time.

Makes great soup also.

Smoked them in the GOSM with hickory @ 250ish for about 6 hrs.  Internal breast was 165F when I pulled them off.

Absoulutely the best smoked turkey I’ve done.  Simple clean flavor, slightly sweet with alittle salt.  Perfect cold or hot.  Sorry, the finished picture is from Christmas.  To busy cutting turkey and pulling pig last weekend to get any shots.

Pops 6927 thanks for sharing your recipe with us.  I am using the Lo-Salt version and also cut the white sugar in half.  Again keep posting great stuff.  Thanks

Great job on the turkeys and glad you liked it!  It looked delicious, and very creative with the bacon hanger!  This, in essence, is the beauty and purpose of this forum; an exchange of ideas that we can all benefit from.  In no other time could I post a recipe or procedure one day in Fort Worth, Tx. and have a fellow enthusiast try it and like it in Maryland the next!  It absolutely amazes me!  Once again, my sincerest thanks to Jeff for making this forum possible; please support it with subscriptions so we can all reap its rewards!   A wonderful and honorable service you've done for your community and for our future generation of leaders and leadership-building; these Scouts will long remember what you've done for them!

Those are great points.  You never really think about the impact of your posts, but now that you mentioned it.  You are correct.  The power of the pen with the speed of electricity.

Again thanks for the share and the excellent post with directions.  All the posters inspire me.  I never thought that I'd be curing turkeys or making bacon.  What a great place.

Thanks to all of you.
