Oh Yes...I do and I really do!  Love what I made and will do it again!  I feel good about knowing what is in there...and it's "fresh"...and I feel accomplished that the stewpid manual grinder did NOT Beat me!  LOL (yes...my arm is still sore.....

.. I nicknamed my hand grinder "Armstrong"...... I probably ran 1000lbs through it before I moved up to the cabals 1 hp. I keep it around for small batches and a little exercise now and then....

Hope to see you making links and some smoked sausages here soon...........

The sausage looks awesome Kat!

My job as a young'n was to turn the crank too.   My brother has the grinder and I don't think I'm making a trip to get it.

My father used to make the best sage sausage.  He loved sage.  Best I remember all he used was sage, salt and pepper.   It was awesome.  I've got several shoulders I'm thinking about making sausage into.

Ya'll have got me to wanting to make sausage.   Gotta be cheaper then store bought.

Kat,  I'm curious what the hubby was doing while you became Popeye?  :-)

Wes.......the hubby was checking on me at several times during the hours grinding! Lol.....even my son turned the crank a time or two. I did 99% of it. So far as the cost and sweat equity. Its a toss up. But....I get Deans mild....which is between $3.59 to $3.89 a one pound roll. I got 5 one pounders out of the 12 pounds and I lost count on the patties. Just the rolls cost almost as much...doing the math.....as the butts themselves. So....yes it was cheaper. Also I know what is in them.
The butts cost $21.59.

Even at that savings it wouldn't take long to pay for a electric grinder.   We buy Dean Sage.   Its very good, but I'd rather have more sage.   I'm thinking sausage today.   Local grocer has  shoulders for .99. ( I have a raincheck for .99.  They ran out last week)    I'm thinking 10lb for a start.   See if wally world has a cheap grinder.

Question.   Does anyone double grind?    I like my hamburger double ground.   Does anyone do there sausage that way?

Made sausage, biscuits and eggs for breakfast today.  The sausage was amazing!  The flavors had mellowed in the freezer.  Thawed about 6 patties for breakfast!  Oh Yummm....will always have some of the in the freezer!

My plate was gone in a hurry!

Just getting sizzling!

Done!  Love these!

I am going to put the biscuit recipe in the breads section now.

Getting my grinder today at 3pm!  Woot woot!

I got a Kitchener #12 last fall from Northern Tool, and it's been great. No problems so far. I do about 15# at a time and it handles it well. I got a 2" stuffing tube from LEM and I grind it into poly stuffing bags to put in the fridge or freezer. Got the bags from LEM as well. This way I cut off as much as I need for each patty and fry it up. I haven't tried stuffing into casings yet. That's next on my list. Here's the link to the grinder: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200451267_200451267

Good job with the sausage. I made a bunch for Christmas using Pop's Breakfast recipe. Got rave reviews.

Lots of folks here have the Northern Tool grinders and like them.  The Cabelas grinders are also popular.

Lower power units are ok for small batches.  If you are going to grind up a deer, look for more horsepower and speed.

Good luck and good smokingl.

I bought the Cabela's 1 hp grinder a few years ago as it could also power the mixer they sell.  Haven't bought that... yet.... lol.. but plan to now that we're retired and grandkids are growing!  We've already made them Pop's Suasage converts; they've even watched me and George jr. make it!

Keep passing that recipe down the line of the kidlets!  I know I will continue to make it!!!!

Good Morning Wes, Yes I always double grind the meat I make into sausage.

I grind it once, Mix in my seasoning, chill it again and then grind again. seems to work great for me.
