With the price of eggs folks in my little town are petitioning city council to allow chicken coops here in town. I found a local farm that pours OUT tons of beautiful brown free range eggs @ $2.50 a dozen. Really great eggs. I could run 50 dozen to the city and double the price lol.
I know of people doing the exact same thing here!

Back to the predator topic and a short story;

Way back in my West Va. years I worked with a guy who decided he wanted to try egg selling as a side gig. (We worked as carpenters for a local home builder).

Clarence kept detailed records of his cash outlay and income, Coop expenses, wire, biddies, and feed, balanced against income produced from his egg sales.

At some point his usually dependable hens quit laying. Clarence went into detective mode and eventually found the cause to be a fair sized snake lurking in the rafters of the coop. After a bit of thought; Clarence retrieved his shotgun from the house and blasted the snake.

Solved one problem but, of coarse, blew a hole in his coop roof that needed a cash outlay, and some labor, to repair, and the hens, (in the coop at the time), never laid another egg.

Clarence had yet another side gig as a preacher and he told this story on himself; so I believe it to be true.

And if it ain't the truth, it oughta be.
Well if you cant make money selling eggs, selling religion has made countless individuals very well off ! lol

Since you made and sent me those holders mine have been eating the lettuce and cabbage like crazy. Hang it and go back out a short time later and it's gone
Right

Mine jump at the lettuce/cabbage when I carry it in the coop.

I been putting cucumber on it also.

My Plymouth rocks lay the darker brown eggs, White lace lay the med brown and the golden comets lay the very light brown.

The younguns will be green, blue and speckled eggers.

Im getting 6 black copper marins next week that will lay very dark brown copperish eggs.
