Made it to Colorado. We are at sons just outside of Denver. Next week we are doing a rd trip. Heading North on I-25 into Cheyenne then up to Devils tower and over to Rushmore. Looks like I-90 Across for while.

Anyone here along this way?

IDK if you have been there before or not. If not, take Iron Mountain Road 16A in, and do the needles highway, 87 out, its well worth the views and this route allows you to see heads from inside the tunnels.

When to see Devils Tower when we lived in Cheyenne.
Mistake was going in winter. Cloud cover almost all the way down to base.
Did go to Rushmore too.
Best part of the trip was seeing a field full of eagles.

I haven't been to Devil's Tower (the Nations first national monument) for a long time but there are a number of of walking & hiking trails and some really good viewing areas. There is also a Prairie Dog town nearby. I visit Hill City in August for a KCBS barbecue contest, so we typically stay there and make day trips since it's in the middle of everything.

Spearfish is about an hour from Devil's Tower, and the roads south through the Black Hills Nat'l Forest are very scenic, but can have a lot of traffic at times. Deadwood was a gold mining town that now has a lot of tourist attractions and casino gambling. Sturgis is the site of the big motorcycle rally every August. Rapid City has a neat Presidents walking tour. Hill City and Keystone also cater to tourists, with shopping, restaurants and bars. There is an 1880's era steam locomotive and passenger car that makes trips between the two towns several times each day, a one-way trip is about an hour. Mt Rushmore is south of Keystone. Custer State Park is south of Mt Rushmore and is also a very scenic drive. The Crazy Horse Memorial is north of the town of Custer. I've never been to the Jewel Cave or the Wind Cave. Have a great trip, there is plenty of things to do and see.

Definitely take the time to visit Custer State Park. Devils Tower and Mt. Rushmore are icons but I can promise you Custer State Park is worth it.

We spend almost a week in the Black Hills and didn't visit many of the stops.
The train is fun. Rushmore itself is a quick trip. We stayed at the KOA on the west side so a trip to Crazy Horse and a trip on the needles highway (wife did not enjoy that trek) through the tunnels.
Keystone is fun with panning for gold or riding the chairlift.
We also stayed in the south side at the mammoth springs

Tomorrow we head into Wisconsin to get some cheese.
How close will you be to New Glarus ? Worked with a taper that used to drive up to New Glarus Brewery . He'd bring back an assortment for me . It was all good .

Never mind . Looks like they're closed on the weekend .

Yep New Glarus is only sold in Wisconsin. We fly up to NW Wisconsin every May for our anniversary and it's sold everywhere. From the biggest grocery stores to every tiny bar and grill. Good stuff for sure. Our favorite is the New Glarus Spotted Cow. I'm driving up near Green Bay later this summer for a convention and I can assure you there will be at least 10 cases coming back to GA! If you're a beer drinker I highly recommend it.

We are in Wisconsin right now. Madison

Nice trip.
My only regret on our Black Hills trip was not making the side trek to Devils Tower. Amazing what the volcanic ring can push up.
Happy the trip going well.

Hope y'all are having fun Rick sounds like you need to load up on cheese and beer :emoji_laughing:
