Offset smoker Restoration Question.

Hey guys, Long time Lurker 1st time Poster............

I have a Cheap offset smoker (Char Broil) that I picked up for $40.  It was out in the rain, and had some surface rust, as well as some rust inside of the firebox and in the cooking chamber.  I took it apart and took a wire brush wheel on my mikita grinder to the the whole inside and outside of the Smoker.  I am now ready to re-assemble it after I pain it.  I have a few Questions:

1:  Should I paint the inside of the smoker?  I wouldn't think so, but there was paint in there from the factory......... 

2:  Where can I get replacement cooking grates?  They are 16"x15" square cooking grates.

3.  I need to clean the entire smoker before I paint it so the paint will stick, What would work to wipe it down, be cheap, and non toxic?

Any help you could give would be appreciated.  Thanks!!!

1. Some people paint but all you really need to do is season it and it won't rust again

2. Not sure

3. Cheap white vinegar. Some members don't paint the outside they rub cooking oil on it fire up the smoker and let the heat cook it on basically the same as seasoning the inside

Great idea!!!  That's what I'm gonna do.  Paint the outside (it's really ugly right now) and coat the inside with oil and season it like a cast iron skillet!!!!  Thanks for your help!!!!!

You can try lowes or home depot and maybe walmart. If not I would call the charbroil co......... or find a buddy who can make the for ya
