...to ask a real newbie question, so if it isn't, I apologize in advance.

I am new, new, new to smoking and want to use my Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker for the first time this weekend.  I want to smoke a turkey breast.  Now for the question...do I put it directly on the rack in the smoker? On foil? In a shallow pan??  Seems like it should go right on the shelf/rack, but I wanted to check with the experts first!!

Hello.  You might get better response if you posted this in poultry but hopefully my bump will help you out.  The answer to your question in YES.  You can put it on the shelf/rack ( wipe the rack down with veg oil or use the spray stuff to avoid sticking )  with a drip pan below to catch the drippings to use in a wonderful gravy or au jus.  You can place the breast directly in a foil pan and then on the shelf.  You can place a small rack inside the foil pan and place your turkey breast on the smaller rack ( veg oil ) and then the foil pan on your smoker rack.  You can use foil and a drip pan if you want to go that route.  Hope this helps.

I read your original post.  Made me smile;  " how hard can it be"?  You are about to answer that question.  It ain't rocket science and I don't mean to discourage you at all, GLAD you took the leap and glad to have you as a member.  It's just that we all have at least 1 or 10 horror stories we could tell.  Despite all efforts; everything turned to cr$$ all at once and that piece of meat just turned out horrible.  SHOULD that happen DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!  Happens to us all.  We have many great folks here with a wealth of knowledge and we all will help in any way we can.  Remember to post pics of your process and the final product.  If you don't receive an answer to a question please feel free to PM me, I am usually here at least once a day.  If I don't know, I'll bet I know which member to PM for an answer.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!
