So I have been meaning to post on Roll Call for about a year, since I started looking at this wonderful site. I live in Benbrook Tx which is southwest of Fort Worth. I have an Oklahoma Joe offset horizontal smoker. I have modified the stack and recently replaced grates with newer cast iron grates (long story). I had smoked a few briskets and beer can chicken before on an older new braunsfels smoker that a friend gave me from a rent house that we renovated. The legs rusted so I bought my OK Joe at Academy for fathers day (great gift from the wife).
From this site my smoking skills have been considerably improved. I can't believe all the meats I have smoked because of this site - My family says my Thankgiving turkeys are now mandatory and my pulled pork (with the awesome finishing sauce from here) are a staple.
I am married and we have 3 kids, like to travel when we can, and generally try to enjoy life each and every day. My wife cracks up because I am so into this smoking - my favorite thing is sitting out back while it is going and enjoying a beverage and watching a game (Go Rangers!).
Thanks to the folks who run this site and to those who offer up the encouragement and tips on a daily basis. My wife tells me I surf my "BBQ Porn" all the time and well I guess there is nothing wrong with that!
