If you saw my intro you know I just retired a 15 year old gas grill and a nearly as old electric smoker. Both died this winter in service to my belly and now reside in the city dump. Rest in peace you magnificent chunks of cheap rusty metal. This created a serious dilema as I am the opposite of congress; I hate spending money. Plus given the choice between shopping and having my toenails pulled off, I would have to take a few minutes to consider the pros and cons of each. Just the same I also need to fill that aforementioned belly and I am certainly not going to pay someone to make BBQ for me. I am so cheap I would do my own dental work if I had a better vice grips and knew someone who sold that green herb they are so fond of in Colorado. After spending couple weeks researching options online and complaining a lot, the mother of my children and holder of the purse decided to take matters into her own hands. She called me while I was at work the other day and said "Have I got a deal for you!". A smaller local box store had 2019 Weber grills on clearance. Long story short I gave it a thumbs up and she bought a copper colored Weber Genesis II SE-410 for $599 assembled and tested. Even came with a coupon for a free propane refill. The SE stands for special edition, but it's basically an S-410 inside the lid. The sucky news is that they did not have a copper model assembled and that woman who tells me what to do did not like the smoke or crimson version that they did have ready to go. But sometime next week that big copper gasser will be sitting on my patio with a foil packet full of apple wood puffing away inside of it.

Congratulations! Isn't it funny how the women in our lives always seem to know what to do. Enjoy it, looking forward to some posts with lots of pics.

I got the E410 on clearance last year. I mainly use gas for steaks. I can not get it hot enough to sear a steak. I have gone back to my old silver B. A guy at work has the same problem. Not sure if something wrong or if that just they way there are? I do chicken on it when I am lazy and it works great for that. Let me know how yours works?

You sound like the perfect match for an ugly drum smoker, you can build a bare bones basic one for way less than $100. All you need is the barrel a grill grate or some meat hooks and rebar. You don't need fancy ball valves on riser pipes or anything like that unless you want them. We used to make them up at deer and duck camp with a pick ax and a few pieces or rebar to hang meat, we just popped a few air holes in the bottom and slide the lid over a touch so the smoke could vent. No coal basket or anything like that we'd take a bag of coals and dump them on the ground with a few logs and start the fire on one side of the pile.
Cheap and easy, and the bbq that came out of them rivaled bbq that came off my old Kloss offset smoker.

Real men don't use LP or natural gas or electricity to bbq their meat.:emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:

i have the first edition genesis .. controls on right side and 3 long burners front to back and side burner.. .. i pd like $700 all those yrs ago.. i smoke on it all the time.. i put chunks on flavor bars for some and have a tin box to put on bars for chips n pellets. works great when chickens or pork butt on the spit rotisserie. butt only takes 5 hrs with that metal rod thru it.. and front burner going about at 250- 275 degrees, and the juice just goes round n round
