  1. Just wanted to say hi and thank you all for the great smoker ideas and recepies! I work for Lowes and am going to purchase the Char-Griller Super-Pro with sidebox and make some of the changes done on here by other members. Thanks again and once I get the project started there will be plenty pics to show!

First off welcome to SMF there Delmo. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

    Welcome To Your New Addiction

  17. Ok got the grill and sfb today, hope to have it assembled and starting the mods by the end of the week! Any suggestions and pics of easy mods would be greatly appreciated! These were two displays for the lowes I work at and got a great deal, just a few little things need to be tightened down and then I need to attach the sfb.

I don't know what difference there is between the super pro and the smokin' pro (if any).  But here's a compendium of a thread with enough mods for the Smokin' Pro to keep you busy for a long time:

    http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/58778/char-griller-smokin-pro-with-firebox-mods/100

I'd tackle the charcoal basket first.  You can buy expanded metal at Home Depot and Lowes.  If you've got as many college students working at your HD and Lowes as we do out here, they probably won't know what you're talking about and will tell you they don't have it.  Don't be fooled.  Chances are they do.  I've found it in 2 different HDs and one Lowes, and I had at least 3 people in each one of those tell me they didn't have it.  Just look next to the plate metal, flat iron, angle iron, etc...  They package it in cardboard to protect the innocent (it will cut you if you look at it wrong so always wear gloves while handling it).  Look for something that looks like a home furnace air filter.

While you're there, grab a 3" aluminum dryer vent hose to extend your exhaust to grate level.  You'll have to bend the bottom of the exhaust tube since it's flared out, but a pair of channel locks makes short work of that.

Those are two very easy mods that make a big difference and are relatively cheap.

And if you don't drill in your own thermometers to the smoking chamber, have some way other than the stock thermometer to track temps.  Those things are for looks only.  They're pure garbage.  I've seen mine off by 100 degrees before.  Point being, have some way to track grate level cooking temps.

Hah.  Just noticed that you work at Lowes.  I guess I should read more carefully before I make fun of Lowes employees, huh?

    Derp.

Happy modding.  I've had a blast modding mine.

  20. My store here does not carry the expanded metal, but it has diamond lath which resembles the expanded metal. Now when I season it, what is the process most use? No worries Mormon!
