Bought a electric smoke hollow 7 years ago and used it once due to the fact that I didn't know what I was doing and meat did not turn out . I thought it was the smokers fault so I never used it again. Before storing it away for a long sleep I cleaned it with oven cleaner. I since pulled it out and decided to do a little reading and  I found out you should never use oven cleaner inside a electric smoker because of the insulation. So I took it apart to clean it really well and noticed that the bottom of the insulation was saturated with oven spray. should I cut 4 inches up around the bottom of the smoker to remove the bad insulation. Or should I call it a loss and throw the whole thing out.

You might want to fire it up on its highest setting for a couple of hours and see how much burns off then wipe it down with vinegar to neutralize the cleaner.   As far as cutting out the insulation, try the burn off first; if there is a strong cleaner smell, either trim it or toss it.

Sounds good to me...Would be a shame to toss the smoker...JJ

From what I have seen on some manufacturers sites, the insulation is rated at 850 degrees and is spun glass. Just keep in mind that insulation, if compressed to fit, loses most of its capabilities.  Maybe Smoke Hollow can help out. See link below.  I am not endorsing this brand but the link illustrates what I was referring to.
