I live in the North Texas area.  Way north, in fact i'm only about 30 minutes to Oklahoma border.  Just puchased an Old Country 'Brazos' model smoker from Academy. Spent more time than i care to admit searching for a good quality smoker at various retail stores, online and Craig's list.  Struggled with pellet, eggs, and other variants and decided to go old school.

I honestly got so tied of trying to find something on Craig's list and thought it best to get started cooking rather than searching.

Gave smoker a good seasoning, then a buddy of mine came over this past weekend to give it a try.    Will post in a seperate thread the results of the dry run, along with a few questions.

Looking forward to some good tips and tricks.

First off welcome to SMF! Nice job with the seasoning, it is key to good tasting meat on a new smoker and you get a handle on the temps. Looking forward to some pics of your smoke!

Lji1221, welcome to SMF!  Glad you are here and got something to use to start smoking.  Nothing wrong with buying new the first time, then using CL to add to your collection.  Trust me, it will happen.

Have fun!
