love smoked foods since a buddy smoked a turkey for my wedding 28 yrs ago but never got further than bbq whole pig on wood. Another friend has been promising to treat me to a smoked chicken for 10 years (ain't happened ) so he had a metal electrical panel box he had been planning to build a smoker out of ( it wasn't going to happen ) so he told me to take the box and build a smoker and keep it at my house. ( its happening ) I've got some build pics and it is coming along quite well. Vertical and at a good height, gas, glass in the door, used a panel from a set of glass doors for a fireplace and the hinge so it has a door in a door for feeding chips with/out opening the main door to let out the heat and to q-view. Thinking about insulation, I'm a chimney sweep and have access to 1/4 and 1/2 in ceramic wool blankets that I use when lining a chimney good to 2200 deg. Don't think I'm going to use it as an incinerator though ! It has five racks 5in apart each rack is 18.5 wide X 16" deep. Need to work on the venting of the box though.
