Actually, we did the great room also. All of the popcorn texture and carpet is gone.

The countertops are quartz with a touch of gold vein running through it. The wife chose quartz over granite because it doesn't require periodic sealing.

Oh man, the cabinets and countertops were really crappy builder grade that had been painted at least twice. I had fun wrecking them out.
The new cabinets are all plywood with soft touch hardware. Day am they are nice!

Quartz is a little more than granite. It shouldn't be, being man made, but it is. Is it worth it? I think so.
